Osteria Manciana is a traditional mountain inn that has evolved over time, adapting to new generations while remaining a daily gathering place for locals and travellers alike. For decades, it has been frequented by farmers, masons, hikers, and, after World War II, by migrant workers returning from the Swiss interior, border guards, and soldiers stationed in the area.
In the 1960s, it became a stopover for the bricolle smugglers—men who carried sacks of contraband cigarettes (bricolle) into Italy, avoiding the border patrols. Even today, stories are told of the spalloni and their daring adventures across the border.
For nearly a century, La Manciana has been a reference point for the village and for travellers—once for trade, now for tourism—connecting Switzerland and Italy, Lake Como and Lake Lugano.
Hospitality and openness have always been, and will always remain, the hallmarks of Osteria Manciana and its patrons.
